WHO IS AN OSTEOPATH AND WHAT DOES THEIR PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE INVOLVE?
An osteopath is a qualified manual therapist who works with the patient’s body as an integrated whole, viewing its structures and systems as interconnected. Unlike conventional physiotherapy, osteopathy does not focus solely on the location of pain. Instead, it seeks to identify the underlying causes and contributing factors of a patient’s symptoms, which may originate elsewhere in the body.
In clinical practice, osteopaths diagnose and treat dysfunctions of the musculoskeletal, visceral and craniosacral systems. They work with patients experiencing back pain, migraines, digestive disorders, tension-type headaches, joint problems and postural dysfunctions.
Osteopathy is founded on a fundamental principle formulated by its founder, Andrew Taylor Still: the body possesses an inherent capacity for self-regulation and self-healing, and the role of the practitioner is to identify and address obstacles that may interfere with these natural processes.

WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS TO BECOME AN OSTEOPATH?
In Poland, osteopathic education is offered in the form of postgraduate studies and is intended for individuals who already hold a qualification in a medical or healthcare-related field. It is NOT possible to enter osteopathic education directly without prior academic training in the health sciences.
WHO CAN APPLY FOR OSTEOPATHIC STUDIES?
The programme is open to:
- graduates of physiotherapy full-time programmes
- medical doctors
- physicians
These entry requirements are based on the European Standard for Osteopathic Healthcare Provision, EN 16686, as well as the guidelines of OsEAN (Osteopathic European Academic Network), supporting a high standard of professional preparation for osteopathic practice.
